Karpeles Manuscript Library Museums
This gal can talk! I am the former Director of Education Programs for the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum in Santa Barbara, and am currently on the faculty of Elderhostel and Santa Barbara City College Continuing Education. I have lectured at hundreds of venues including the de Young Museum in San Francisco, the International Fancy Foods Show in New York City, the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation, for wineries, corporate groups, schools and private clubs.
Presentations, all of which I developed and many of them illustrated with slides (archaic perhaps, but with more clear and crisp images than powerpoint), include:
- The History of Chocolate
- Chocolate Appreciation for the Obsessed (originally co-taught with Stephanie Hersh, Julia Child’s personal assistant)
- The History of Chocolate’s Reputation as an Aphrodisiac
- Christopher Columbus and Betty Crocker Do Lunch: Old World Cooks and New World Foods
- The Italian Food Legacy, from the Roman Legions to Little Caeser’s
- The American Food Legacy, From General Washington to Colonel Sanders
- Table-Hopping, Social Climbing and Just Driving Through: The History of Dining Out
- The History and Traditions of Italian Street Painting
- Principles of Ayurvedic Health Care and Ayurvedic Cooking
- The Life of Julia Child (developed in association with Julia Child’s personal assistant)
Contact me if you would like me to speak to your group about any of these subjects, or to develop a presentation tailored to your group’s interests.
